Friday:
Toyota Trucks presented FMX in Bridgeport, Connecticut, which was held at the Arena at Harbor Yard, on this Friday night. The weather was frigid on the outside; however, the FMX action melted the ice on the inside. The IFMA FMX Tour was joined by the Hell on Wheels BMX Stunt Team and Jennifer Schneider, aka…”The Cannon Lady”. Also in attendance, the US Air Force ROTC program from nearby Norwalk High School, which provided the Color Guard for the event.
Nine of the nations top FMX pilots were in attendance to battle for the final spot on the Toyota Hot Seat. During qualifying, Ritchie Kearns, of nearby Seymour, was the first to do a backflip, which made the boisterous crowd, go nuts! He was the top qualifier until Jack Rowe, sponsored by Renegade Clothing, came out a busted a couple of flips and a very sharp routine. Rowe maintained the top spot throughout qualifying, besting Thomas Alves, of Phoenix and “Stuntman Dan” Newth of Vermont.
The scene was set for the main event, Newth was the first rider and had a solid run, ending with a flip and it netted him a score of 90.0. Next up, was Kearns, who had the local crowd behind him. He started with a backflip and had different tricks, which put him in the judge’s favor and scored a 92.1. The winner from last Saturday night in Pensacola was Thomas Alves, and he had a reputation to live up to! He did not disappoint as the Troy Lee Designs rider had several different backflip variations which included a no-hander, heel clicker, no-footer and a regular flip and scored an impressive 94.3. Jack Rowe was the final rider and started with a backflip-heel clicker and a backflip-cordova, Jack also added a scorpion and several hi-flying aerials, but the judges sided with Alves, giving Rowe a final tally of 94.1. This was the closest finish that we have seen this year and the action is just heating up! Back with more tomorrow! Here are tonight’s results! Mikey

Saturday:
The second round of the Toyota Trucks FMX in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was on Saturday, January 19th.  The FMX all-stars were playing to a sell-out on this particular evening.  Phoenix native, Thomas Alves, had won the last two FMX’s going back to Pensacola, and was going for three in a row on this night. The stage was set, but could he do it…read on.
Slade Waltman aka “Mr.  Nasty” posted a 91.2 and was the first rider out of the tunnel.  Slade kept the lead until hometown favorite, Ritchie Kearns, who brought more than 75 people to the show, scored a 92.2.  Jack Rowe ended as the top qualifier with a 92.4, with Thomas Alves in the 3rd position and Chris Taylor rounding out the top four and Kearns in second.
On to the main event, first up was Colorado’s Chris Taylor, Chris ran the cleanest run of this season, holding his tricks and getting fully extended, however he did not get, “upside down”, the judges scored him a 92.7.  Next on tap, “The Tank” Thomas Alves.  Alves put on a brilliant aerial routine including a no-handed backfllip, backflip- whip, and three more before his time was up, the crowd and judges agreed that he would sit on the Toyota Hot Seat.  Next in line was Ritchie Kearns, Kearns had a great run going but pulled a Supercross air which would score him a 92.9.  Jack Rowe, an Ogio rider, was last out of the box, and Rowe did not disappoint!  He started with a backflip-cordova, into a one handed backflip, to a superman backflip, and a display that won over the crowd, the judges, the ushers, the firemen, EMS, etc… After accepting the nod with an incredible score of 96.7, he showed his class by thanking the Lord for keeping everyone safe and his fellow riders for pushing him to the limit!  Next week the tour heads to Pittsburgh…we hop to see you there!  Mikey
