PACKED HOUSE ROCKS SAC-TOWN

SACRAMENTO , 2.24.2007

A crowd of over fourteen thousand absolutely lit up the ARCO Arena for the FMX stop in Sacramento . Things started off very well with the Toyota Trucks Pit Party and carried on right thru to the final encore. Not only did we have eleven riders but we had the best in the West as X-Games medalists Drake McElroy and Matt Buyten wowed the crowd along with Jeff Banks the 2005 FMX Canadian champion.

Scott Stephens, Benoit Milot, and Jonny Ebenol set the table with scores in the low 80’s. Things were looking good for Greg Garrison to make a transition to the final, however, he laid his rig down halfway into his run and ended his night early. Matt Buyten, Drake “ DMC ” McElroy and Billy Walls all had great runs to qualify easily for the Final. However Jeff Banks run caused a little controversy as he had to short a ramp run and only got in six tricks. He was able to advance to the final but he had to throw down three back flips to get in. Our fifth transfer to the final was Grant Teel.

Following an excellent Trials Course run by Dave Chavez and an unbelievably high cannon shot by Dave Smith, the Team FMX competition got under way. Matt Buyten and Drake McElroy started things off with a 92 and were able to cruise to a win despite crowd favorite Billy Walls amping the crowd.

Speaking of Billy he took the momentum he built in the team FMX contest into the Whip Off and drove the crowd nuts as they were the judges for the winner and put him on Top.

The 5050BMX.com boys stoked the fans with excellent display of acrobatics that had the crowd pumped for the finals.

Our five riders in the final did not disappoint with all five scoring in the 90’s. Grant Teel led us off and was the first to occupy the Capital Yamaha Hot Seat. The 2005 Canadian FMX Champion Jeff Banks rolled out next and went huge with four back flips to drop a 91 even. Billy Walls was unable to match Bank’s effort which left just two riders to battle for the top spot. Drake McElroy took off first and wrestled the Capital Yamaha Hot Seat away from Banks. Our final rider of the night Matt Buyten made good use of his run that included a perfect Cliffhanger and a well placed Back Flip to Win the Sacramento FMX title with a 93.

It was a great stop here in NorCal with a friendly and receptive crowd cheering on the riders. We look forward to coming back next year. David Knisley
