Gabriel Villegas Takes His First Corpus Christi Win
The kid from Florida takes the win in front of a full house in Corpus Cristi, Texas. It’s spring break in Texas, the weather is hot and the riding inside the American Bank Center was even hotter. One of the favorites tonight was Javier Villegas. Using his experience from last summers Dew Action Sports Tour, Javier was on fire in the early part of his run but a small mistake on a cliff hanger saw Javier go down hard. Although Javier was banged up with some cuts and bruises, overall he was ok but sat out the rest of the competition.
The finals came down to four riders including Gabriel Villegas, Gary Robertson, JJ Romans and Tim Boka. Tim started off the final with a solid score of 85.5 and set the tone for the rest of the night. JJ Romans then put some pressure on the remaining competitors with a score of 87.0 even with a small mistake during his run.
Although Gary Robertson was the number one qualifier coming into the main event, he was no match for the eighteen year old kid from Florida, Gabriel Villegas. Gabriel’s run was perfect, huge extensions and big tricks. The crowd came to its feet when Gabriel did his newest trick the G Force, almost like a sidewinder but bigger. Gabriel’s score of 92.5 was just enough to beat out Gary Robertson’s 92.0. Gabriel’s smile said it all as he took tonight’s win.
Along with the FMX, the Ride N Grind BMX team was on fire with all types of tricks including Flares, Backflips and Tailwhips. The boys did a great job and put on one heck of a show and their tricks were huge!
A young man named Keith Wineland, a trials rider was absolutely incredible. Jumping from his trailer to the ramps, up and down stairs and had the crowd on its feet. If tomorrow is anything like tonight, spring break will never be the same in Texas.
Peace~

The final four riders came down to a battle between 2 OG's and some brothers. First rider out was Trevor Vines who killed it during his first run, but wasn't as lucky in the finals. A few dead sailors, cliffhanger, and ......landed him in 4th place with a 88.5. Next out of the gate was Garry Robertson who rode strong but not as strong as his Saturday night's performance- landing him in 3rd place for the afternoon. It was down to the battle of the brothers between Gabriel and Javier Villegas. Gabriel was out first with a near flawless run full of sick combos and huge extensions. Javier came out hot, even while nursing a wound from last night's event, putting together a killer run to edge out his little brother by just one-tenth of a point!!
