Nicknamed “DMC,” Drake McElroy is acknowledged as one of the smoothest and most fluid riders on the FMX scene. Starting his riding career at the age of 3 had to help, along with several years of amateur motocross racing experience.
Drake’s freestyle career really started to come together in mid-2000, and he’s been on a roll ever since.
“I found my niche in freestyle in August 2000,” Drake says. “I rode an SFX event in Arizona and made a little coin for just riding my bike and having fun. A week later I qualified as the first alternate for the Vans Triple Crown.”
Drake was a quick learner, and in 2002 he took a bronze medal at the X Games; in 2004 he ended the WFA season ranked as the number-one freestyle rider in the world.
Drake’s highest overall finish in the IFMA series came in 2004, when he finished fourth overall. In 2005 his results sort of stumbled, yet he was still able to notch an IFMA win on his way to 14th overall in the series.
