The Distler brothers have been into freestyle motocross since the late ’90s, and John, the elder of the two, says he got involved by “just riding motorcycles out in the desert.”
But his first big break came back in 1999. “I got invited to go to the Four Leaf event, and from there on I started riding all of the Clear Channel stuff and Gravity Games,” he explains. “I’ve pretty much been doing as many contests and shows as possible since.”
John was also a regular competitor on the Vans Triple Crown tour, which he participated in every year but last, due to an injury.
After an injury-plagued 2005 season, John—one of the few competitors who prefers to ride a big Honda CRF450R four-stroke—says, “I just want to get back into things and do a bunch of shows and get back into the contest scene and have fun with it.”
