Cook, Derek

“Cowboy” Kenny Bartram has been influential in starting the freestyle careers of several Oklahoma natives, including Lawton’s Derek Cook.

“I was racing at the time and started watching freestyle and wanted to try doing some tricks,” explains Derek. “So I followed Kenny Bartram off a ramp one day, and from that point on, I was hooked!”

In 2005, Derek, who is sponsored by Elk City Honda, made all of the IFMA main events and placed in the top seven at each one. He also traveled to Thailand to participate in the Asian X Cup. Unfortunately, his lowlight in 2005 was under-rotating a backflip and tearing up his shoulder, thus missing the Dew Action Sports Tour and several other major summer events.

What’s in store for Derek in 2006? “I want to make it to Summer and Winter X Games, along with the Dew Action Sports Tour,” he says. “I just want to have fun and continue making a living riding dirt bikes.”
